CMI Unitops and 502s
I'm thinking of installing CMI Unitops on my 502s next spring. Am I going to have to have the computer re-programmed? I have the K series 502s (1996). No other modifications will be done at that time. Heads/cam the following year.

Re: CMI Unitops and 502s
I seen a set of e-tops on ebay that will bolt right up to yours online today.

Re: CMI Unitops and 502s
Maybe, maybe not. Plug check when installed, to see for sure.
BUT, do you have standard location exhaust tip holes??!! With Uni-tops, you must have standard location holes, for them to point at, and be able to get exhaust hose to fit.. If not, you must use E-tops, and get custom tails made! EDIT: Just re-read the first post, and I noticed 'heads next year'. Depending on your choice, but most likely, good flowing heads will have raised exhaust ports, making a 'good' fitting exhaust now, about 5/8" higher after heads swap, with the typical amount of difference in good aftermarket heads. You may want to WAIT until you install those heads, to measure for custom tails on E-Tops (or, depending on your hp goals, Sport Tubes) at that time. The order form has an area asking what height block and what type heads, to account for differences from OE distances. |

http://www.custommarine.com/catalog.php
Download the catalogue and go to page 18 or so. This is the standard Bravo tip hole location chart, and how to measure. Prolly 80% or more boats are NOT standard Bravo locations. |
Re: CMI Unitops and 502s
You really do need to follow the guidelines for measuring your current tip location. With Uni-Tops, one size definately does not fit all.
Keep in mind that ALL CMI products will see a price increase of 10% effective January first. That can be some serious change on a twin engine application. One of the questions asked on the build sheet is type of heads. This allows CMI to build tails to fit exsisting holes if needed. [Regular Elbow Tops with tails.] |
