454 stroked to a 489

Built my 454 to 420 specs but I used my cast crank (balanced) and hyper pistons. The Gen V is bored .030 over thinking of supercharging at a later date so I might as well put a forged crank and forged pistons and while I am doing that I might as well stroke it anybody ever stroke one to a 489 and do you think it will run any better?

There's reliability in cubic inches...of course that's assuming everything has been machined, fitted, and clearanced properly. And YES, stroking the engine/adding cubes should make it run better as in more power. The forged crank and pistons are a very good idea too---especially if you supercharged it!

Marine engines LOVE torque. Adding stroke, adds Tq. 454's stroked to 496's with all the correct pieces will beat up on 502's/509's.

and paint it YELLA,,,,,,(for those of you that are relative newbies or just haven't seen me call KAAMA yella, it's because he painted his engines just about the brightest shade of yella known to man, brighter than the sun, so bright you gotta wear shades, man. Farm out, man. like, wowsville, man.)

Yup, stroking it would be a noticeable upgrade. That's my plan for next winter on my 509 engines. I just bought two sets of H-beam 6.385 rods and two 4.250-stroke 1-piece rear seal 4340 forged cranks. And yes, Mark, the superchargers are going back on this spring. So you won't be able to use them. Mark, Dave W and I actually talked about me painting them yella but I told him you'd never let me live it down. Besides, I don't think I could ever duplicate that shade as it blinded the last guy that mixed the paint.

This is good then I will plan on buying it after the first of the year and I'm not going to tell any of my boat friends I surprised a bunch of people last year and I know they are gunning for me so I will do this. My motor will now be stroked and balanced I will run the same crane valve train cylinder heads are large oval port 2.19/1.88 ported and flowed it will also bump my comp. up from 8.79-1 to 9.1, and I will switch from a 750 eldelbrock carb to a 850 sea demon. Maybe I will turn a few heads and still how them how pretty my transom is

K24U, I have one USED set of 6.385" Eagle H-beam rods with pins that could help that 489 become a reality you're interested in building. The pin ends need to be rebushed/honed and they do NOT have the stronger L-19 bolts, but they were once used in one of my 540cid engines with standard sized rod journals on the cranks and ran fine with about 682hp @5700rpm with 65 hours on them. The big ends have been reconditioned. They've been sitting in my basement for a couple of years collecting dust. $175
