KAAMA, 540's in my future

Yo, Mrs. Cleaver,,,,,,I got me two sets of H-beam 6.385 rods and two 4.250-stroke 4340 one-piece-rear-seal cranks on the way for next winter's engine freshening. Desktop Dyno indicates that 825hp is possible with 540cid, the Reed camshafts currently in the 509's, my Merlin iron heads, SRP pistons and the superchargers @7lbs. I just might have to paint 'em YELLA. Hey, it worked for you. Then again, red is a great color too.

DD says I could find more power with a cam change but those Reed cams you sold me really run and idle nice.

Have you thought about looking foor the ultra tall-deck blocks and building a pair of 700+ci engines?

Ah-ha! So, ya goin' back to dem huffers eh and adding some cubes along the way too I see? Sounds like that Top Gun with the blowers Dave just finished with the SSM#3's like yours got you all worked up. Just so you know, I DO have one set of seasoned 4340 H-beam Eagle rods in a box somewhere---they do NOT have the stronger rod bolts and the pin ends need to be bushed and honed. I'll sell them to you for $175 if you want---might save you a nickel or two on your project. And even though I know Dave would like to see me go to some 598" tall decks the answer is NO!!! My puddle jumper has got enough power the way it is now and for what it is, she's a RUNNER.

Mark, my new rods are in transit and should be here Monday or Tuesday. Crankshafts should be here the end of the week.
Here's the deal; you might as well start looking for a tall block, maybe even an 11-inch tall deck. It won't hurt so bad if you do it a piece at a time, and you're in no hurry anyway. A project engine would be a neat longterm project, something you might even get me to help with. 4.6 bore and 5-inch stroke is 665ci. I'll have to run that through desktop dyno and play with it a bit. I'll bet that engine would sound pretty good through your Stellings.

Being that the winter of 2006 isn't OFFICIALLY here yet, when you say; "next winter" does that actually mean the winter of 2006 and 2007??? Or, does that mean the winter of 2007 and 2008???

And NO, you cannot paint them YELLA---that's MY color!!! :D

I have a Merlin 2 tall deck 10.2 with max bore that I would let go for $400. It still has life left in it. I also have one with a welded deck that I would throw in . You pay the freight. If it were me I would have a good machine shop check them out. They should be ok for NA. Joe Murray

KAAMA, that sounds like a great opportunity for a project tall-deck engine for you.

As far as which winter I actually crack the 509's open, I guess we'll just have to wait and see.

Joe, what is max bore on that one?

Joe, thanks for the heads up on those blocks. Maybe someone else might snatch them up on here. If I went to a tall deck block it would change my exhaust cut-outs and center to center,...blah, bla, blah, blah blah...you know, the domino effect and not about to go there so, I'm not having anything to do with tall decks otherwise I just might be interested.

Crazy, glad you like those Reed cams---sounds like they're working well for your CID/app....even if you go to larger cubes/blowers!
