Gen 6 guys...roller lifters
I have a 454HO that I'm looking to replace the cam for one w/more lift - like in the .600 range. I heard that factory lifters can't go more than .575. But some guys say they are using the oe lifters w/.600 cams.
Any input is appreciated - thanks! Vince |
Re: Gen 6 guys...roller lifters
Depends on the base circle diameter of the cam shaft your using. Most small crane cams work fine with factory lifters up to .610 lift.

Re: Gen 6 guys...roller lifters
I ran factory OEM roller lifters in my Gen 6 engine with a Crane 587 / 612 cam. I later swapped that cam for a custom roller 629 / 629. These same lifters have over 300 hours on them.

Re: Gen 6 guys...roller lifters
I have to admit, this for a 69 chevlle
I'm upgrading heads to the GMPP alum rovals w/2.25/1.88, so I'd like to get some lift. Seems to be alot more experience w/the Gen 6 motors over hear. I'm thinking either the: Comp XM 284 230/236 112 .547/.547 Crane 168731 226/236 .587/.610 Voodoo 231/239 .6/.6 I like the XM284, but I think I'd be doing myself a disservice w/the low lift. Guys here seem to like the Crane. I wanna use the OE lifters b/c there almost new, and these motors already suffer from heavy valvetrains, and the Crane lifters are even heavier than the OE lifter. And for some reason I just trust OE stuff. Not to mention $400.00+. There seems to be debate on the lifters. Either they: Fall below the dog bone, push the dogbone up, oil holes dont line up. Here's a pic of the oil hole height between the oe and crane lifters:http://chevyhiperformance.com/techar...mage_small.jpg here's how low the lifters fall into the block with a .600 voodoo: http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g1...4/DSCN0302.jpg |
Re: Gen 6 guys...roller lifters
I have a 230@ 50 & 600 thou with a custom grinde Com cam and stock 230 hour roller lifters. Runs strong but some bottem end torque has gone away and after a real good tuning session not much better top speed. Next time i would run 550 and 225 @ 50 and have the bottem back a little. Jas
