Mercury sells a timing plug which plugs in the test harness. It sells for about $10.00. It jumps A & B together so you can set the timing with a timing light. (This turns off the computer from adjusting the timing). Or call Alan Jones (my father) he has two 502 MPI's and has been there and done that. His number is 856-589-1070, he said to call him if you need help/advice on the timing.

You can also take a paper clip and jump across the A & B terminal on the diagnostic plug it will be the black and white wires side by side. After you jump the 2 wires bring the Rpm's up to about 1200 RPM to help steady the timing.

Do like Tyler says. I'll only charge you $ 9.00 for the paperclip bent to a perfect fit :drink:
