454 mains bolt torque

Hi folks and thanks for looking.
I am about to reinstall my crank and went to look up the torque specs for the caps and my books are all over the place. From 95 to 80 lbs.
It is a 1986 MIE340 (mercruiser) 454ci
2 bolt mains.
Any help?

Re: 454 mains bolt torque

Now that is strange. My merc book says for the model 330 and 340 is 80 lbs
My Volvo book with Chevy section says 110lbs
A website I was just on says 110lbs for the 4 bolt mains?

Re: 454 mains bolt torque

One a two bolt main block 100 ft. lbs. is what I torque to. 110 ft. lbs. on a 4 bolt. DO NOT use moly lube! It will change the torque dramtically.

Re: 454 mains bolt torque

Finally got a hold of a former Merc tech friend. He said, OEM Merc book, Service manual #9 says 110lbs with oil only. He also checked the service bulletin index for any changed specs for the engine and didn't find any.

Thanks folks for the help.
