Value of Boat??

First, I am aware that my boat isn't worth that much, but here goes:

I have a 1986 Chris Craft 222 Stinger I bought new. It's been garaged more than half it's life. It's in good but not excellent shape with a trailer.

Here's the problem. I'm looking at a Cigarette Bullet and the wife has decreed that I MUST sell the Stinger first but there is no engine in my boat now. Last engine was a 406CI small block a few years ago that cracked a cylinder. I have to decide to sell with or without an engine and if with engine, how hot an engine?

So my options are:
1. Sell boat and outdrive (My guess on value 2K to $3500)
2. Put a mild engine in (Spend 3K-4K and sell maybe 6K)
3. Put a decent hot engine in (Spend 5K-6K and get maybe ??)

Looking straight at the numbers, it looks like I should just sell boat and trailer and whatever parts I have as-is, but can I even sell it like that? I see larger boats sold without power. Anyway, any help would be greatly appreciated. I don't want to let the Bullet get away.

Re: Value of Boat??

I would sell and market the boat as a project boat on ebay. Sell the parts that you have as a package. No use of spending anymore money on the boat as is. You will never recoop the actual cost of putting the motor in or the time it will take. We aren't talking a lot of money. Better off getting the tax money for your new bullet. GOOD LUCK!

Re: Value of Boat??

Sounds like good advice.
OK, I still didn't see any money numbers posted. I've decided why waste several weekends for no gain. I guess I'll try to sell without motor so this is my next question.

Is $3500 a fair price for:

Boat with Alpha drive attached (with nose cone)
Merc 21P SS prop and a 25P Hydromotive prop
Original cockpit and interior with all cushions and cockpit cover.
Original tabs, zero effort controls, instruments, remote compass, strereo (no CD).
.030 over 400 Block, crank, heads, rods, pistons, intake, carb, and all other parts.

Buyer will need:
The outdrive rubber couple
re-build the starter, alternator and carb
All the regular rebuild stuff like gaskets, oil pump, timing chain, etc.

Is it worth $3500, or am I too high or low?

Why not post pics of the boat

Re: Value of Boat??

Sorry, wasn't trying to necessarily sell it in the forum right now. I'll plan listing it in the classifieds here or boat trader or someplace for that. I'll take some pics (probably this weekend) and post them.

I'm just trying to get an idea of it's worth to be fair for both parties. My problem is I really don't see many comparable boats to judge it by. In fact, I don't think I've ever seen a 21-23 foot sportboat with no engine for sale. I'm afraid I may not sell it if I price it too high.

With that said (and no pics to put up now), can anyone throw me some numbers with an opinion? Don't worry about my feelings guys :)
Just the facts ma'am

Re: Value of Boat??

i owned an 86 a long time ago it was a cool boat with the center
steer. i have seen running bb in the water for5k. for your i would think 2k max. if it were me i would strip the boat and donate the hull to charity. parts would be easier to sell. and the wife wouldnt have to see the boat in the yard.
