454 supercharger
Have a 2001 454 mpi NONmag. Thinking of installing a procharger. Will it survive? Anyone have any experience with this? Do you know anyone that has done this and Is the motor still alive?

Re: 454 supercharger
It will be a ticking timebomb. How long it will tick?????? Nobody knows for sure. The cast pistons can't handle the heat of the sc.

Re: 454 supercharger
To a degree Griff is right. I purchased my 24 Pantera from a guy who ran the Procharger on the 7.4 for two years before he tore it down and installed JE pistons, upgraded rods and Dart heads. He didn't have any issues in the two years.
Low boost and decent fuel should prevent any major issues. But eventually you need to upgrade or unfortunately will be forced to. I have a complete M-1 Procharger (polished) with Intercooler (black) for sale. The blower was rebuilt by Procharger less than 140 hours ago and the intercooler is one year old and only used in fresh water. The only thing this kit needs is a fuel system and I could help you with the right components. Only selling because I purchased a new engine complete with blower. Let me know if you are interested. Re: 454 supercharger
The engine will not last vary long without a few changes.
The L-29 heads have a heart shaped cumbustion chamber. With boost the point of the heart becomes vary hot and melts a holes in the cast pistons. If you swap to an open chamber head, the pistons will last longer. But like the other guys said forged pistons are the way to go. |

It'll last all winter long.....it's the summers that usually kill them quick! :drink:

Re: 454 supercharger
I would not do it to a non mag. My mag made one season before pushing gas past the rings. Rebuilt and modified. The other issue is the drive. Do it all or nothing. Speaking from expieience.

how about a 502 Mag with carb - can it handle 4-5 # of boost without melting down?
Love the comment about lasting all winter....lol |

Love the comment about lasting all winter....lol Sure it can. Replace the head gaskets and use inconnel exhaust valves for longevity. A 600SC is real similar to a 502mag with a 671 blower. Use at least a 250 blower or go centrifugal. Make sure to upgrade your fuel delivery system as needed. |
