Best way to hook up an Ipod to Reciever
 

Hello All-

I recently bought a new kenwood reciver and am looking to install an ipod to it.

Here is the reciver I bought.

What is the best way to hook up an ipod? There are many ways to do it and I am confused.

Depends. Can't tell from the pic, but does it have a small phone jack on the front for an MP3 player?

If so, all you need is a phono cord from ipod to reciever.

My reciever has aux inputs RCA jacks on the back of the head unit. I use a Y patch cord with RCA jacks on one end, and the small 1/8" phono jack on the other and route the cord to where I use my Ipod (dash)


Many of the Ipod interface reviews I have read have worked less than ideal.

if the unit has a port to plug in a changer you can get the bus cable from ipod to radio.

Your new deck has the same auxillary input on the front face as my sony. All you need to do is buy cable (I prefer Monster) and run from earphone output on ipod to auxillary input on deck. I have a Creative Lab player and this is how I use mine.

The controling of the Ipod itself. I usually go to the Best Buy or Circut City sites and find the item I'm interested in and read the buyers reviews of that item. Some brands work better than others, but none seem to work as good/easy as just controling the Ipod from the Ipod itself.

Sound is fine.

If your deck has the interface capability..like my Pioneer does..then use that like Hunster says...It works very good on my Pioneer, the quality is awsome & the control is easy through your iPod itself..the interface will plug into the back of your deck and the iPod plugs into it with a long enough cord to keep it out of harms way..if it is like mine..... I suggest to buy a rubber "BOOT" for your ipod too..I bought mine at Radio Shack...it is made by Speck Products..very thick shock absorbing rubber with real glass cover for the display..inexpensive too!

That receiver has no FRONT PANEL input.
It only has a proprietary plug on the back of the unit for additional inputs. You can purchase the Kenwood adaptor for a CD changer, for a separate satellite receiver, an Ipod, or a universal source. As somebody mentioned, the IPOD adaptor is $50. I think a universal changer input is around $25.

I got a Pioneer Supertuner III for mine last year with MP3/WMA compatible disc player AND front panel input. In my years, Pioneer pulls in stations better in fringe areas (or with an antenna hung up under the gunwale), and I like the MP3 discs. Some of the newer Fords also play MP3 discs. You can put about 250 songs on em. Of course, flash drive MP3 players DON'T SKIP in rough water.

When my sony dies , probably soon, there is a new one with usb front panel and aux in front panel for like 160. Will also do my sat radio. like the idea of the usb, not into the ipod but do have a lot of music on the pc and flash drives are a lot cheaper than an Ipod. Kenwood has a usb too but not on the front panel. Think that is the way to go now.
