why wouldn't this work?

Hi guys,
I've always envied the easy access of the front mounted raw water pump on Volvo engines. Does anybody have any experience or ideas how this would work with my 509's? Thanks. - Jeff

I did have cam driven water pumps on my old set-up, never had any problems, remove 3 bolts and cover and your starring at the impeller, easy.....

kaama,
do you know the brand of the pumps? Thanks.
Jeff

The pumps are called Magnaflow, They are in the Eddie Marine catalog, or on his website. You have to change your timing covers to use they pumps, I might have all my old stuff, not sure I'll check if you want??

Do the cam drive pumps give you enough water flow at idle and running . Do to the fact of the slower turning speed. I'v been thinking of these or crank drives for my new engines. THANKS JOHN

I run a Volvo Penta crank driven pump on my 502Mag Merc.
I also had a cam driven pump on a small block a few years back.
Both are great and much easier to service.
For Big HP engines needing lots of flow the Merc belt driven sea pump does have an impeller that is 2 times the size though...

I've got cam riven pumps on my 454 mags, now putting out 425hp. They work very well and are very easy to service.
KAAMA on the board has them on some tall decks putting out over 550hp.
