Hyd lifter life

Anyone have any success in running hyd lifers in a 1000hp+ type application and getting 150 + hours? Cam specs of .600+ lift and dur at .240-.250 at 050. Looking for experince where you would normally cruise 3000-4000 rpm and perhaps do some poker runs and spend some time at 4500-5000rpm. I think the word is they normally do not fare well when ran at 5800+ for any extended periods? Any info would be appreciated. Been running solids and thinking of hydraulics. :D

We run Crane hydraulics on our 1050+ hp 565s and expect over 200hrs, they twist flawlessly up to 6500 rpms with zero float.

The only place I run solids is in my 6 second Race car ,the old school guy's still don't want to change their program on boat engines as they wont get them back to freshen every season.

If I really feel the need to gain that extra 40 or so hp I will add a 1/2lb of boost.

Morel has a limited travel hyd roller lifter. You set the preload at zero and can run seat pressure of 200# on it. No issues for going 5 to 6000 rpm for extended runs.

Glen what kind of lift and duration are you running if you don't mind me asking.

200 hrs on ANY lifters @ 1000 hp?

bob 03-05-2007 09:00 PM

Anyone know what Merc has been Merc, Sterling, Pfaff, Zul are using for their high hp applications at 900+?

PM Dean Gellner, Mr Horsepower on the board. He has done quite a bit of testing for Morel on some heavy hitters in marine application. Most of the stuff that I know the Morels are in are 500 to 700HP NA engines.

We have Pfaff 1000's and ran 200 hrs with the original lifters...they were Crane lifters and looked great when we took them out...did a leak down and everything looked great, so we put the new Morel lifters in, valve springs, keepers, and push rods...so hopefully we are ready to go this season...also sent the blowers in for freshening too...
