Gauge Problem

I just installed some new gauges. Before i hooked up the lights or anything i hooked them up and turned the boat on and i believe they worked fine. Yesterday i finished wiring installing them. When i turned the motor on (not started just on) everything still worked fine but my temp gauge creeped up to 200. The first time i tried the gauges it did not do this. The only thing i did different is i have a jumper going from the ground for the gauge to the ground for the gauge lights. Could this be what is causing my problem? Thanks in advance.

Make sure you are not grounding the sender terminal on the gauge.
There should be four terminals on the gauge-
12V pos
sender
light
neg or grd

Verify that all your connections are correct. If you still have the same problem you'll need to verify that all the grounds (instrument panel and engines) are good.

check your ground!!!!! it may look good but try that jumper one more time ,see if it creeps up higher when more dash lights are turned on. Sure sign of overloaded/weak ground wire , Cort

Today i ran a ground straight from the battery to the gauge and it did the same thing. It does not matter if the lights are on or not. Is it possible that i need a new sending unit? I also doubled checked to make sure that all of the connections are correct. This is the only gauge that i am having trouble with.

Friday i installed a new sending unit just to rule it out. I am still having the problem and now the gauge just pegs out to 240. All of my other gauges work just fine. Is it possible that my gauge is bad? Is there any way to ohm out a gauge to see if it is bad? Thanks in advance.

I am positive. Yesterday i ohmed the terminals(sending to ground) on the gauge with all of the wires hooked up and the ign. on and i get nothing. If i take the sending unit wire off and ohm from the sending unit wire to the ground on the gauge i get an ohm reading of around 240. Would i be correct to say that the gauge is going to ground?
