Merc SC600, who knows about them?

Looking for info on Merc's SC600 engine built in 1999. Good bad, maintenance issues, or concerns. Is it a 454 or 502 platform?

Who has or is still running them?

what fuel 91?

How can I verifiy hours on an engine?

What should a perspective buyer look for.

TIA

It's a 502.

91 octane

If it has TBV ignition, the ignition
modules can be scanned.

600sc's run TB IV ignitions and do not have an ECM. No way to verify hours.
Merc states they require 92 octane fuel.

Its a 502 with a B&M 420 blower, 6# of boostm, with 2 700cfm Holleys, 7.5:1 compression and crane flat tappet cam.

Pretty reliable engines from what I have read, but also very thirsty.

I had one in a 28 Warlock Cat. Couldn't keep the blower belt on. It was supposed to be a new motor but found out later it was a used engine. Thanks Carter!

O.K. thanx guys.

Another question, would CMI headers bolt up direct from an hp500efi? I'm looking for an easy swap.

BAM's site shows TBV for a 98' 600SC
http://www.mercruiserparts.com/Show_...CAL+COMPONENTS

Those ares the same basic compontents
( with the exception of a different p/n ingition module)
as my 98' HP500's with TBV had.

A friend of mine had a warranty issue with one
of his carbed HP500's, the dealer had to send in the ignition
modules in to merc, they were able to scan them
to verify hours and what hours were at various rpm increments.

Rinda may have a product to do this,
I saw it somewhere but can't remeber if it was them.

Did not know that. My merc HP manual only shows the TB IV.

Yes...same headers. The 600SC's I have been around are near bullet proof.
