How much slip?
wondering how much prop slip is acceptable
i used a slip calculater on go-fast.com and mine is roughly 14% its a stock 454/330 , bravo one , 1.5 to one , 23 pitch mirage (not a plus) in a 24 foot boat (not a deep vee , but not a bass boat either , somewhere in between ) 1988 24 foot checkmate enforcer engine spins 4800 , no hesitation , and the boat goes 60 (that was the best , usually 58-59 the hull is nice and clean , no paint , no growth , i can shave in the reflection , the lower unit is very clean too , just the last 3 inches of the skeg broken off , but aside from brand new i'v rarely seen one that wasnt anything i forgot? thanks in advanced guys , your the best on the web |
I would say that 14% on non step V is pretty average. It would probably go down a little with a mirage plus prop.

thanks , next step is to find a used Mirage +

I have a 23P Mirage Plus....
|
I think the 25p would be a lil overpropped for my stock motor
but tell me how much you want for the 23p mirage + Matt , i'm interested |
A 25" Mirage plus behaves like a 25.5" or 26" non plus
|
Keep in mind that a Mirage Plus will bring the RPM down quite a bit compared to that of a Mirage of the same pitch. So you will need to drop down in pitch to maintain RPM of the 23P Mirage you have now.

Yep, a mirage plus will drop your rpms about 200 or so, but will maintain the same speed. It has a little better bite.
BTW, get a new skeg welded on. Its what steers the boat. |
It's just the lower 2 inches of the skeg , theres still alot left
and the drop to 4600 rpm would not be hateful , i'm guessing the diff. between mirage and mirage plus is the plus is a cupped prop? and a 25p cupped would act like a 26 or 27 and would beat my engine and drive up , dont want that thanks everyone for the great feedback |
$300 OBO for the Mirage Plus

I have a '93 Checkmate 230 Enforcer which I believe has pretty much the same hull as your boat and I'm seeing 10 - 11 percent slip with a Labbed Bravo I 4 blade prop...

I used to hae the same model boat. Mine was an 87. I never checked the slip back then, basically cuz I didn't know how. But, I had a 420+ HP 454 with Gil exhaust and the boat would run 70mph steady at 5000rpm max. It also had an Alpha SS that never ever failed me spinning a 26 Trophy 4 blade large hub. I also ran labbed finished hydromotive and Bravo 1 with little difference. I even ran a High Five for the first couple of years.
Anyhow, that boat will run and handle very well for it's size and can take good horsepower and water. When I sold it to my friend in Florida, he put about 600HP to it running somewhere around 80 and the drive still never failed. Good luck with your boat and dont be afraid to put the HP to it! BTW...the stern jack did not help at all. |
YEA , thats my boat , except w/o the same horsepower , same colors too :)
arent the alpha SS drives hard to find parts for? i have a friend that has a pair on his nova 26 and they seem to handle horsepower well i'm gonna stick with the bravo 1 more horsepower will come in the fall with a 454 thats getting warmed up a lil to about 420-430 horse with fuel injection as for the prop slip , in a couple weeks i'll be back in the water with a few different props to test out (gotta love ebay) thanks for all the reply's this is by far the best online community out there for boaters |
The 25P Mirage was perfect for me when I had a 454/330 in my Enforcer 230. I have a factory 496HO now and I'm a little underpropped with a 27P Mirage Plus.

I Looked at a 230 enforcer , its about 2 feet shorter then my 24 , the 230 enforcer has the swim platform molded into the length of the boat , ergo you can effectivly use a 25p prop
i still think it would be overkill on my rig |
