Sucking out Gear Lube?
Anyone try sucking the lube out of a drive - from the bottom - with an oil change pump? I am trying to find a "better way" to change gear lube on boats that are kept on a lift. I have tried rigging it so the pan floats and is held by the skeg, but then a wave or something....
Any ideas or suggestions? |
Have a platform added to the back of your lift or pull it onto a trailer.

Have you tried retro-fitting the threaded end (which screws into the drain on the back of the carrier) of a standard mercury pump that fits onto a quart bottle of lube to your oil change pump? Then you could use the oil change pump to drain and fill by just reversing the flow. :drink:

It was not on my personal boat, I was helping out a friend. |
As suggested, a strong stable service platform attached to the lift down deep (no risk of hitting it when pulling boat in) is the way to go. Once you install it, youll use it all the time.

Tie a bucket underneath and let'r drain.
