496 oil temp?

I'm trying to find out if there is a location on the 496mag HO that will accept a sender for a oil tempurature gauge. I've searched this forum a couple of times and I get the impression that there is not a sender for an oil temp gauage.

Anyone added this particular gauge yet?

On a stock 496 I would think not ... about as close you can get without pulling the motor to pull and tap the oil pan (preferred) would be to "T" off the oil pressure sender. I think its located on the top port side of the Block ...at the rear of the motor ....on the MIV blocks there are ports in the Block above where the remote oil filter adapter is .... I'm not sure on a Gen VI Block ....m

In the past I have installed them in the remote along with the filter. Its simple and you dont have to fight to get on in the pan or in an oil galley in the side of the block.

thats a good idea and I have considered that ...if you sample the oil from the block before the filter i think it would be a good representation of oil Temp ...MOST say it has to be tapped at the pan but how much could it cool from the pump straight to the filter at 5000 rpm ?....m

Thanks for the tip John,

I'm going out to put the batteries back in the boat this weekend. I'll take a look at how the remote oil filter is set up. Do you know if there is an existing port/plug that I can use or will need to drill and tap somewhere to install the fitting?
