thick Exhaust gasket ?
Does anyone know of any manufacture that makes a exhaust gasket that is at least 1/8 (.125) thick. The gasket is round 2.15 inch big block chevy . I spoke to Mr. gasket and they dont have it. I have also checked my felpro books and they don't offer it.
The problem I'm having is the headers are hitting the valve covers .The headers are CMI split tubes . The valve covers are tall cast aluminum KE's. Replacing the valve covers is not an option, due to they are newly painted , and they are needed for the clearance for the stud girdles . I know I can grind the corner of the valve cover a little ,but I dont want to have to grind to much material . This is for a twin engine side by side tall deck blocks so exhaust spacers will cause the headers to hit.thanks for your help. Tom |
Double up a regular gasket!!

Pantera 28, I thought of that ,but I think that will probably blow out . Have you had any luck doing that?

Use the Mr Gasket grafite gaskets and double them up
They have wire mesh built in. I have used them for years and have never blown them out. Make sure you keep the header bolts tight and it shouldnt be a problem. |
Has anybody else tried running two gaskets .

Tom, Try CV parts, most of the high performance machine shops use their parts. I use the thick on my drag boat and have had no problems, Beware, you may have to retorque from time to time the header bolts. Is there a way you could heat up the exhaust and bend slightly away from your valve cover?

I cant change the pipes in anyway , they are powdercoated.

I just saw a pair of exhaust spacers for sale somewhere, check in the Swap Shop on here. I imagine that's what they were made for.
