I have been told that a hydo nose cone is good on cats b/c they have more stern lift and that the imco or bobs nose cone is better for a V-hull. Is this true?

Just spoke with IMCO. They said their lower units retail for $4,400, while the Bravo Shop's cost $2,200. What's the difference?

There seems to be that there is speed to be gained by just changing to the more aerodynamic units. Now, to determine if the boat can handle a shortie.

If your current Bravo lower is working for you, you just need the lower case and you can use most your current parts. Any outdrive tech should be able to swap the parts. I think you just need a new vertical shaft (shorter). Mr. Gadgets, correct? Worst case you can sell your current lower complete. If you get Max Machine to do the work, they will probably take your stock Bravo stuff in trade.

Thats correct Ben. The satin lower case goes for about $2200 with shipping. Comes with the proper vertical shaft. The rest, if in good condition, swaps over and proper setup needs to be addressed.
And you are correct on the three blade.. just a planing test is all you are looking at..

Thanks guys. Mr. Gadgets do you sell the Imco lower? Is there a set-up that needs to be done, or just swap the internals? Trying to see what my next move is after checking the x-dim. Not looking forward to spending the money on new lowers, but it sounds as though this is the place to look for more speed.

What was the boat these results were gained on? Brand, model, power etc.

1987 Scarab Panther. 9500 lbs with light fuel and two aboard. Total about 1450-1500 HP. We ended a year later with approx.1550 HP another inch up on the X with 5-blade Herrings turning in at 107.0 MPH on GPS at Lake X. That put the hull efficiency at 250+. Not bad for an old resin bucket...

That's some serious speed! So you are running -2 Imco with 5 blade Herrings? Did you some upgrades to your Bravo drives besides the shorties?
