Fiber washers

I just dropped my engine back in and I'm bolting up the bellhousing to the transom assembly (Bravo). What are these fiber washers supposed to do. My mechanic gave them to me with a schematic but when I put them in place they just slide up over the tall spacer.

Confused....

They go between the bellhousing and transom assembly along with the spring washers. Then slip the long bolts through with the long spacers(washers).

Ok thanks. It sounds like I should have put them on before the engine got dropped down on the mounts.

jdub is correct. Yes they should be on there before the motor was dropped in. The only thing I can see them doing, is they keep metal from metal contact.

Usually helps if you put and adhesive silicone to keep them in place. Them things are a pia and always move around while installing the engine.

another good way to adhere the fibers to your inner transom plates is to use" High Tac" I think Permatex makes it (available at most parts stores) Make sure your spring washers are clean and in good shape it helps to illiminate drive shaft misalignment issues.:evilb:

I agree with sschafee on the condition of the double-wowned
(sp?) spring washer. If they are even slightly fatiqued your drive alignment will be off. Had a problem with mine after engine install, put new ones in, perfect alignment.

I used new springs and washers with adhesive. Rocked the engine forward on the mounts and put them in place. It was not as bad as I thought it would be.
