Why starter solenoid and slave (relay) solenoid?
Finishing up the wiring on my engine and was wondering why you need 2 starter solenoids. Can I start the motor with just the one mounted on the starter?
|
The slave solenoid lets you run 16 guage wire from the key switch to the engine.

If all my wires are 16 gauge from key switch to engine do I need the slave?
|
Yes you need the slave. The slave solenoid is the switching point from low voltage wire to high voltage wire.

You need a lot of current to toss the starter relay. The one that triggers the starter relay needs less current to trigger it. You would need almost 8ga wire up to your dash to get rid of the second relay, then you would just have issues with your key switch burning out all the time.

OK, so the 16 gauge wire from the harness goes to the slave then from the slave use 10 gauge to the starter?

U got it...
