SBC Cam question.
 

I just got a shortblock from a friend I am going to use in my boat, it is a balanced and forged 350 with a ZZ9 Roller cam, I am pretty sure this cam will work nice with my heads and compression, it is close to what I was told to run with my heads.

The cam specs are, 212/226 .483/.520 112deg with 1.5 rockers

The heads are Dart sportsman 200's unported and using a 650 holley and Edelbrock performer intake.

Compression should be around 9.5:1 with my heads and these pistons, I am trying to keep torque up since it is a small block.

This engine was in a car befopre he built his stroker, only has 800 miles on it, looks like new, car went 11's with unported aluminum heads, I know cars are a different world but it should at least make decent power for my budget boat motor!!

Anyone use a combo similar to this??

I'm no expert, but those heads seem a bit large for your cam/cid combo.

Yea, I knew that when I got them but I paid 500.00 for them new, I could not pass it up, that is why I am trying to keep compression up but not too much.

I also planned to do a 400 this winter to put them on but that did not happen.

The 200cc's are a tad large as was mentioned but they should work out ok. You might loose some lowend compared to a high velocity 180-190cc port. That cam has a good bit of exhaust duration bias and a relatively early IVC. Should make decent midrange and topend. What type of exhaust? How high do you intend on spinning the motor?

Exhaust is stock center rise manifolds with 4" outlet and 4" thru-hull,I hope to keep it around 5000-5200? I gues I will have to play with props and see what runs best.
The ZZ9 cam was very close to the specs I was toild by cam-motion last year to run with these heads on a 350.

It's all good. :drink: With the stock manifolds and risers the biased exhaust duration of the cam should help. That rpm range sounds pretty spot on to where that cam should make peak power.

I'm running a 355 in mine. AFR 190cc heads, Performer RPM, Glenwood HP exhaust, Holley 750, 226/230 .537/.511 112LSA
and spin it up to 5800rpms.

What kind of boat? hows it run? I have a 88 Chris craft 245 Limited, it is a nice boat, most had BBC mine was one of the few SB ones but it was 10,000 less then a BB.
It is supposed to be 3750lbs empty according to Chris Craft, the boat did a best of 50 once, then it got worse all season, then when I pulled the engine I found out the balancer spun and I was 4 degrees too much timing, I could never figure out why it always had white plugs! I think the balancer was off even from the beginning, I did the heads last year with a smaller cam and no gain. I could barely spin a 19P prop to 4200 even with a stock engine when everyone else can spin a 21 or 23 past that.

Boat is a 1984 Hammond Challenger MKII V2150. Very fast hull, 1.5" raised X dimension, hydromotive nosecone on the drive, boat is 2800lbs dry which also helps alot. I'm breaking in the gears on my spare drive so I have not opened up the new 355 up yet. Highest I've taken it was 4500rpms and it was cruising 62 gps. I'm hoping for mid to low 70's and I will be happy. I used to run a 355 with a large solid roller cam and the AFR heads, on a good day with 1/4 tank by myself I could get 76-78 mph.

Chris Craft makes nice boats. My Grandfather had a late 70's bowrider that I cut my teeth on. I've always liked the lines of the Stinger too. Do you have any pics?
