Electric or manual fuel pumps?

I 'm dropping my 454's back in next week and not sure if I should run manual or electric fuel pumps. I've heard of guys using both. Is safety more of an issue with one or the other or both?

Assuming you have Gen 4 block (pump boss on block), Mechanical pump is cheaper and easier. Electric adds wiring, and the oil pressure kill switch switch, plus depending on the electric you buy, you may also need a regulator. Mechanical on a Gen 4 is bolt it up and thats it.

The requirements of your engine will dictate what type of fuel system you need. Most stock or slightly modified engines can easily be supplied by a good quality mechanical pump. Personally, I prefer to overkill a fuel system. This is one case when too much wont hurt, as long as you regulate the pressure. On my 540, I use a bolt on mechanical along with an Aeromotive electric and return regulator. Probably dont need all of it, but its nice to have.

make sure its a MARINE pump with the line that will tell you if you ever rupture the diaphram.

Good HP mechanical pumps can equal or excede what an electric pump can put out.
