2000 HP500 Carb Motors
I have almost 300 hours and someone recommending having the carbs rebuilt. One engine doesnt start as well as the other when they are warm. That same engine also idles a bit lower than the other.
Any suggestions?? Thanks |
Probably just needs the idle mixture adjusted. I would not think they need to be fully rebuilt.

Cool thanks. Someone said, with 300 hours, they need to be rebuilt. I was wondering if that was true.

If you have not done the valve train maintaince it is way past due. Talk to someone knowledgeable about the need to replace your lifters. If the lifters are the style using the "tie strap" they must be replaced. I did not do mine soon enough, tie strap breaks, lifter turns in it's bore, grinds up cam, breaks apart, metal all thru engine. $$$$$$
Simply look at the cold engine to see if the choke is closed then look when warm and running to see if the chokes are fully opened. Probably time to replace the power valves. My carb HP500 have 450 hrs no rebuilds yet. Fresh valve springs are good for 200-400 RPMS |

There is only one powervalve on an hp500 carb. Its inside the front fuel bowl. Its either bad or its not. If it was bad, it would idle poorly and rich.
