do NOT get the cheap bellows kit!! ( I learned that one the hard way)

check the gromett where the water tube goes from the impeller housing to the upperdrive I have had them split or turn sideways and it will cause that kinda problem.

are you talking about #34?

no it is in the uppergear housing where the water tube goes in
(on the oppisite)end of the tube that sits in #34 grommett

Take the screens of the lower and make sure there's no junk plugging up past the water pickup. A coat hanger makes a good tool to clean out debris.

well, I resealed my transom assembly (bellows and hose). It's better but still not right. One thing I did forget to mention, when the hose is on (motor off) water squirts out of the earmuffs (expected). When I start the motor with the hose on at an idle, water comes out of the prop. Once I rev it up, it comes out of the ports in the bottom of the transom assembly.

I know that the water that comes out of the prop should be running through the motor, but the water is cold. The water that comes out of the ports in the transom assembly is hot... That water that is coming out of the prop is obviously not running through the motor. Could there be a plug or something missing in the lower?

well... I went and bought #34 from the first diagram and #3 on the second and split the case. I pulled the tube out of the lower and hooked that seal out and replaced it. Then I sat down a looked up into the upper housing to try to fish that one out. I couldn't get anything out of it, so I unbolted the water pocket cover and pulled it out. The was nothing rubber in it :eek:

I put the seal that I bought in it and put the cases back together, filled the drive with oil and fired it up. No water out of the prop this time (at least very little compared to before), but had plenty coming out the ports on the bottom of the transom assembly. It was warm water, too. Problem fixed. :D

This is actually a testament to the quality of some "marine" mechanics. The guy that I bought the boat from wasn't much for wrenching on the boat, so he trusted the mechanic where he stored the boat. The previous owner tore the outdrive up last year. He had seen the ads for the sterndrive engineering drives (http://sterndrive.cc/) and saw the SE106 for $1195, but the mechanic wouldn't put it on for him. He insisted that he buy a drive from him for $2000 (clue number one). He did and the mechanic put it on for him. Then the owner had the overheating problem and mechanic told him he must have a collapsed hose. I'm guessing that he was trying to con him into getting the a job on the transom. I'm guessing that with parts and labor it would have cost about $250-$300 when he could have just replaced the $2.50 part and been fine. Don't get me wrong, the u-joint and shift bellows and the water hose DID need to be replaced, but I think the mechanic tried to hoo-doo the guy into doing it. Oh well...
