Another fuel question- EFI fuel filter? Can I use my stock merc filter or not?

Okay, so the other thread has me convinced to run a new 1/2" line from the tank to the engine compartment. I'm going to mount my SX fuel pump to the stringer, AN-10 fittings on that to the regulator.

Now what about the fuel filter? I have the stock 1996 merc fuel filter/water seperator for a carberator. I don't even know if that the thing can handle 50psi. It has two inlets and outlets so I could split my AN-10 line into both 3/8" ports... or just get rid of the thing and use an inline filter. Maybe water isn't a bad thing with a EFI system- no fuel bowls for water to accumulate. What filter should I run, and where in the system does it go?

That's a good question. Anybody? If you keep it drill out the ports and re-thread for larger fittings. I was wondering about deleting mine to get rid of the restriction.

The filter/seperator needs to be on the suction side of the pump. It is not intended to see high pressure. If the regulator fails, pressure could exceed 90 psi. Any way you slice it, water is BAD!

OK, so plumb in the stock filter, or go aftermarket? 600HP whipple EFI'd 454...
