Hatch Actuator
Hatch Actuator
Replace or Rebuild. I have a 1988 Baja 240 sport, The hatch actuator is almost gone. It will lift the hatch but extremely slow. You really need two people, one to hold the switch and one to help lift the hatch. Is the actuator something that can be fixed / rebuilt or should it be replaced? Thanks, Speed |
If you are reffering to a standard screw type actuator, I would suggest a replacement. Check out this link.

I just installed a brand new 24" today and it worked the same as my old one.
I paid around $250 from CP Performance, $175 if you are interested in the new one. Still has the wrapping around the chrome. (10 minutes of run time) I am going to put the old one back on. |
I'm going to the lake this weekend. I will check the size. if it is a 24" I will be in touch.
Thanks, Speed. do you measure it closed or all the way open?? |

Measure it closed. They only made a couple different lenghts.

Also make sure you check the hatch switch as well. I have had a few that the ram seemed to be bad and it wasnt, the switch contacts had some carbon build up on them from all the amperage running through it and it wouldnt let the right amount of voltage through. Put in a new switch and the ram was as good as new.:D

Before you replace it....make sure you are getting 12 volts to it.
Mine was very slow, until I dropped in a new battery. |
Thanks for all the info.:drink:
I will check it out and let you know. I knew I could count on all the great people at OSO to help me out. Thanks Again Speed |
Last year I installed a hatch accuator relay box on my boat.It made a huge difference in speed of the engine hatch! It lets the accuator motor get the full power from the batteries that are close instead of running the power up and back from the dash switch. And that wiring is usually to small.Do a search on the Powerquest forum and you will find a lot of info.
