Voltage drop when thru hull exhaust open
I have a 2000 Baja H2X with 454 Mag MPI and Bravo 1 drive, corsa switchable exhaust. Lately when I press the switch to open the exhaust, the voltage drops 2 volts and stays there. I am thinking the relays or solenoids to open them are stuck.... but really not sure. Looking for any information you guys could help with.
Thanks in advance. RYAN JOHANSEN |
The solenoids use power to keep them open. They are spring return to the close position. The 2 volt drop seems a little high though.

Mines the same..

I used to have the same. The flaps are indeed spring loaded and shut when the power is off. The draw to keep them open seems a bit high though.

I seem to have just the oppisite problem, when I switch to loud exhaust my alternator jumps up about 2 amps!

The solenoid that Corsa uses pulls 30A to move, .75A to hold. It has an internal switch. If the travel does not permit the operating rod to reach the bottom, it will stay at 30 amps. Check it.

where are you getting the power to operate the solenoids? a distrobution block near the gauge panel, you might have better luck if you control them through a relay close to the batts, similar to a trim pump. It might not be an actual 2 volts, just pulling current through small gauge wires shared by gauge power/grounds.

thanks for the help so far, hopefully have some time to tinker on Sunday... It wasn't always like this, but it is enough of a power drop to turn off accessories like the radio sometimes... hmmm
