454 Mag Mpi 540 Easy Hours, Blower Time???
Hello Guys and Gals,
Weather is great up here in Toronto! Been out a couple of times already! I have a '00 454 MAG MPI bone stock which I have owned since new. Always idled to operating temp, regular oil changes, and alot of easy cruising hours. Still runs the exact same as brand new, doesn't burn any oil. I just ran into an unbelievable deal on a brand new paxton supercharger... Do I bolt it on and wait for some part to break, or what should be done to prep this motor. Also anyone in Ontario have someone to recommend to do the work? Thanks! |
If you only wanted to run 3-4 pounds of boost, you could probably get away with just reprograming the ecu. Considering the hours on the engine, even at this low boost, I would also have the heads rebuilt and better head gaskets installed. Any more boost than that, things get complicated fast. You will need a better fuel system, better oiling and better cooling. If you are not a good wrench, a pro built engine and a re-rig is in order. $$$$... Good luck

@ 540 hours to add a blower without a refresh is not usually a wise thing to do... Also I am not sure how you would plan on marinizing a paxton set up.. Even if you did & the hours were low, you would probably be better off paying the difference & go with a whipple or Procharger. It would be easier & checper in the long run.. Plus it is right for the application.... Just my opinion.. ;) Jamie / Lakeside
