Gas tank purging...
Can anyone tell me if I can purge my gas tank that I took out of my Outlaw? I called around to a few mechanic shops in my area and it looks like it's gonna cost about $150 to $175. Is it worth it to pay someone else or is it really not that complicated? Thanks guys.

i guess it comes down to how risky you are, and environmentally friendly you want to be. ive had older tanks that i manually sucked all the fuel out of. then take the sending unit out, and try and get a look into the tank. ive rinsed them with solvents. i always run whatever i get out of an old tank or water seperator in my lawn mower. some people get nervous when they deal with fumes. i just make sure if i'm gonna blow up, its just me thats going.

Well here's the thing.... My tank has been out of my boat with the sending unit and all of the hoses off for a few weeks now. It has been empty the whole time. The thing I need to know is what I should use to clean it? Thanks.

Kerosene works pretty good as a cheap solvent

When I had my gas tank welded on, I want to say he told me to use vinegar and water to clean it out. Maybe someone else can confirm this. (It was about 7-8 years ago. :p )

i believed i used acetone. you can use anything that will break up the varnish left by the old gas. if the tank isnt too big or bulky you can try dropping a bicycle chain ( or anything that can easily retrieved) into the tank. swirl it around with a cleaner, or even gas and try to loosen up crap off the bottom of the tank. just dont dump in anything you cant get out.

Thanks guys... I am just going to do it myself (like most of the work on my boat) and I hope it comes out ok. It is a 100 gal. tank so I am going to need alot of cleaner...I have a few ideas in my head.... I will let everyone know if they work.:D
