Bravo problem

Started the engine in neutral and revved it up. For some reason suddenly the forward gear kicked in. Now i can not get out of forward gear. It is stuck!

What to do??

Thanks

you high speed shifted it and locked up the cone clutch. the drive needs to come off and the upper needs to come apart.

Thanks. What are the chances that it can be repaired? Will I need to replace the gears or maybe the complete upper?

Sometimes the clutch can be hit with a hammer and knocked loose. But not usually.

your chances are usaully slim when this happens. you will probably have to replace the entire upper gear set. oh and don't try and use one of your buddies one gear and not a complete set. these gears are a matched set. will you are in there you should probably re-seal the upper and get a new cone clutch which would just be obvious.

This is an old outdrive (1988) so it may be better to try and find a late model used one.

AHA! 1988 was the first year of the Bravo outdrive and there have been two major upgrades to the gear sets over the years. Send the drive to Doller or BAM and let them work their magic.

I will most likely go for a late year used drive. However, these are made for having an oil monitoring device in the engine compartment. How will that work with a 1988 transom assembly?

Where does the oil monitoring line come out of the drive?

Can I just skip that part?
