Where is oil pressure measured?
Can anyone tell me where in the oil flow path the sending unit measures pressure? I know the sender is in the block near the stock filter location.
I plumbed in an oil cooler, t-stat, and remote oil filter, and would like to know if the pressure is being picked up before or after the filter and cooler. Thanks |
Before.

Oil goes out of the block, into the cooler and back into the engine. Oil pressure sender goes on the pressure side of the filter. You could also install it on the bottom of the block. There should be a NPT threaded hole on the bellhousing side of the mout. Oil temp sendee goes on the return side of the remote filter.

Thanks guys.
I noticed about a 10 psi drop in oil pressure when I plumbed in the t-stat and cooler. Since the pressure sender is before the oil leaves the block for the filter, it can't be a restriction in the cooler, t-stat, or filter. More likely, the pressure is being bled off by a possible faulty bypass valve in the filter. I know I had the full 7 quarts in the pan before I started. Maybe I had some air in the system because of the new hardware and plumbing. |
I have mine at the front of the block after the filter and cooler and all oil passeges to the mains etc. It's just above the pan rail at the very right front of the engine looking back.

I've got one on the block and one on the filter housing.
