Tilt steering replacement question?
I have a pretty sloppy steering problem on boat. It has the rack system with a cable that goes into a Marine Machine dual piston setup on a bravo one. The majority of the slop is at the helm. I don't know the manufacturer of the tilt mechanism, but it is the source of the slop. It looks like the tilt is in halves, with two torx screws holding it together. This mechanism halves are sliding around. It's shot, and i want to replace it, but don't know who makes it. I looked on the eddie marine site and they show a teleflex tilt for sale. Don't know if it's the right one or not, it has no pics. The one i have also has a big rubber boot over it. Anyone know what this is, is it common?

I'd suggest replacing the cable helm with a hydraulic helm.
Then you will have no slop and your boat will perform better. |
I thought about that, i couldn't come up with a price for what i would need. I'm sure it would be over 500 bucks, and that's more than i can spend right now. So i'm looking at fixing what i have.
