Bravo sea pump on Alpha Drive

What needs to be done if using a bravo style raw water pump on an Alpha drive?

I did a search, and it was said that it can be done simply by removing the impeller in the alpha outdrive, and plumbing the transom nipple to the bravo pump.

I've also heard that a separate pickup/strainer would be necessary. If so, where can you get these and how do you install?

Thanks

the easiest thing to do would be to leave the impeller assembly in the drive and route the output from the drive back out the transom and dump it on the drive as a drive shower...then just get a thru-hull pickup for the bravo pump for the engine....

Anybody have pictures of where they put their pickups?

even the alpha sea water pump supplies a decent pressure , you could angle to the left or right and soak the sailboaters you pass , and just pass the power boaters to the other side

thats not illegal is it?
just kidding , but reducing it down to like 1/4 inch would probably give you quite a rooster tail

That would actually be kinda cool!!! make a custom fitting thatsplits the output in two...one shoots down to cool the drive the other makes a killer rooster tail/spray nozzle!!! :D I LIKE IT!

I did this conversion on one of my old boats and it worked out great.I drilled a hole thru the bottom and sealed the wood with two coats of glass and resin. Then I installed a thru hull pick up with a valve and a nipple then piped to a bravo pump I installed on the motor.Plenty of water to cool my 650 HP big block after that.I even just listed an extra pick up and valve on e-bay,cheap.Take a look.

Exactly what I would suggest.
