Code Question On 2001 496ho
These Are The Codes Im Geting Which Ones Mean Something And What Should I Look For Right Now It Will Turn Over But No Spark. Thanks Gary
Pitot Ckt Lo Active Tps1 Range Lo Active Steer Ckt Hi Active 5 Vdc Pwr Lo Active |
Pitot and steering are always there if not using the smartcraft transom senders. The TPS is an issue that needs addressed. I dont remember seeing that VDC power one.
Is the kill switch in its correct position? Are the batterys fully charged? Has any work been performed before it stopped running? Just a few questions. John:D |
Re:
Installed Full Hydro Steering And Went To Bleed The System And No Spark Was Reading The Book And Something About May Be The Throttle Position Sensor Might Be Bad And Shorting Out The 5 Volt Sensor System? Any Ideas?
|
Are you sure the TPS isnt unplugged? Maybe moving around in there it got hit.

re
Is It The One On The Engine Or Is There One Somewhere Else?
|
When my tps sensor failed intermittenly, it tripped the 5v code and caused the engine to randomly (and I mean randomly) loose fire. It would run great for 5 minutes or even an hour and then sputter down and die. Afterwards, would take 7 or eight cranking sessions to fire again... Good luck.

The last one on the list (5 Vdc Pwr Lo Active) is your problem. The 5 volt sensor power circuit is shorted to ground somewhere, most likely a wet sensor. Unplug the sensors one by one, starting with the transom harness, and check to see if the fault status goes to "Inactive" or the Sensor Power jumps back up to 5 volts. Should be easy to find.

Re
Where Is The Transducer Located? And By Transom Harness You Mean The On That Plugs Into The Trim Indicators? Thanks , With All The Wires On The Back Of The Engine Its Hard To Find Them. Gary
|
Not sure what you mean about the transducer. Yes, the transom harness connects to the trim sensors on the gimble ring. If one of those sensors or circuits shorts out, you got no 5 volt power. I bet if you disconnect it, the thing fires right up.
Dave |
Dave brings a great point, starting with the transom harness. When you unplug these harnesses you will need to wait sometimes 6 to 10 seconds for the active to go away. So dont just unplug and try or unplug and see the code still there. It will take a little bit.
Let us all know how you make out. John:D |
re
Chcked all connections at the transom and unpluged the trim sensors didnt make a difference. I started testing the throttle position sensor and was wondering if the sensor was bad as in open across the pos+ and neg- on the sensor when the sensor is plugged in since it cant complete the circut wouldnt it short the whole system? and make lo voltage? my sensor has no continuity across the + /- terminals. gary

Did you unplug the Transom Harness? It sounds like you may have just unplugged the trim sensors. By unplugging the Transom Harness you eliminate the sensors and the wireing through the transom. I was thinking maybe a wire was damaged and/or shorted when the steering was installed.
Anyway, as I said before try unplugging some of the other sensors while monitoring the Sensor Power voltage. I am not sure why you keep going back to the TPS, but to answer your question, unplugging it will not short the circuit and cause low voltage. If you unplug it and the Sensor Power remains low, plug it back in and try another sensor. Dave |
found it started unplugging again and there was a 3 wire connector at the back of the engine that had a pink , blk/pink and grey i think that went back to the ecm. just my luck it had nothing to do with the steering install the so called water tight connection was corroded so bad the pins were half gone just glad it didnt happen while out on the water. thanks again for all the help you where right on. gary

The only good thing about having these otherwise meaningless faults is that they set every time you key up, so by checking their Frequency Count, you can tell if the fault/operating history has been cleared recently. Good to know if your troubleshooting or evaluating/surveying an engine your not familar with. Dave |
Yeah just did some searching and discovered this about the Fuel LVL codes. Thanks Dave.
