Edelbrock cam?

I am in the process of completely going through my 502 and was thinking about using Edelbrock's performer RPM cam and/or top end kit. Supposed to produce 611 hp, 579 tq.

Cam specs are as follows:
236 245 duration, 625 639 lift, 112 lobe sep.

Might possibly go to a Performer RPM air gap just to broaden out the power band.

That's a pretty big cam for a 502. If you think it's too big use a smaller one but stick to a single plane Dart, Victor,Merlin if you want to make hp.

Isnt the duration on the merc 525 cam 236 & 245 with a lift of 612 & 625. I believe the overlap is 114 deg as opposed to 112 on its crane counterpart or this edelbrock cam.

Anybody out there?
I was hoping for some technical info.

Is that a roller cam?
It looks to be slightly larger than the Crane 741.
You will need long exhaust risers or long tube headers.
I agree with PatriYacht, single plan, for the high rpm you'll need to spin with a cam that large.

PatriYacht 06-06-2007 09:34 AM

Yes they are similar. Depending on your exhaust, you may need to go to dry tailpipes. Idle will be a bit rough. Max hp will be in the upper 5000 rpm range. Don't kill it by putting a dual plane on it.

Do you think that the 112 deg lobe seperation will be OK?

or do you think it should have the 114 deg seperation like the 525 cam.

My understanding is that the 525 cam is the same grind as the 741 cam but with 114 deg lobe seperation.

With a dry exhaust; wet exhaust iffy. Carb not EFI.

With wet or dry exhaust. Carb or EFI.

True.

So do you think the 741 cam @ 112 deg lobe sep. with wet exhaust would be OK?

Manifolds with Long Risers or Headers with the water entering just before the thru hull pipes.

No captain's call in my opinion.
