HP500 or modified 502???

My buddy just purchased a 1998 cigarette Top Gun which he told me had HP500's in it. When I looked at the engines yesterday I noticed that they had the HP500 air cleaner and blue carb/intake/valve covers & pulleys....but the block, heads, water pump, brackets etc... where all black. If these engines where factory HP500's, wouldn't everything be blue or does this color scheme sound right for a factory HP500 ?? Also, the intake manifolds were DART MERLIN's. Did mercury racing use DART intakes in 1998 for the HP500's??

Colors sound right. They did have a dart intake.
