Need Help merc 2.4
 

I f uped an engine and trying to figure out what i did.

I took the heads off today and realized that the 1 and 6 pistons were cooked. the 6 has a hole in it and 1 is not much better. Not sure if those are the correct # so see my numbers below.

what would cause this?

I jave a new powerhead I plan to put on but wan't to avoid this from hapening again.

Please any help would be great

remove the plate between the cyclynders. see if the long rubber strip is broken or crystalized. how much water press? and are you runing thermostats or restrictors? e.f.i or carb?

the rubber strip is still intact and flexible. the motor is a carb. and there are thermostats
