Bravo seawater pump belt removal
1 Attachment(s)
Just what the title says, how do you do it with a v-belt? On mine the seawater pump has it's own belt with a tensioner, how do you loosen the tension on the belt to pull it off then re-apply the tension when done? Mine has the pressed on pulley on the pump itself and the v-belt routing is similar to the starboard motor in this setup here.

Losen the nut on the black plastic small pulley. It is a greared stud.
|
You should be able to get ahold of the stud with a cresent to retighten the nut. Mine has the same set up. I keep a extra tension pully around now. I had one lock up on me once.

Alright cool, I almost did that but said the hell with it and figured I double check on here. I'll bail out of work early sometime this week and give it a shot.
|
5/8 wrench to loosen the lock nut, 5/16 wrench to loosen/adjust the belt tension and hold the stud while tightening the lock nut.

So basically its a larger form of what you would find on a chainsaw to put tension on the bar/chain (as far as the tensioner that is)? I could feel what felt like a tensioner screw on the back of the bracket but wasn't quite sure how to get slack on the belt. Gotta love this site!!

Not like a chain saw. Its all on the same part. The bolt that goes through the pulley is the tensioner adjuster. Do as USA Fountain said. You don't need to do anything on the back of the bracket.

This helped a ton, I had that pump off in about 10 mins this evening. Of course I got in a hurry and forgot to prime the pump before I put it on the hose and fired it up and didn't get any water flow out of the pipes    . But I figured what the hell and dropped it in the water and tried it again and got good flow out of the pipes. Took it for a quick cruise to bring it up to temp and it stayed nice and cool. At any rate I'll have another spare on the boat just in case.
