496ho seawater pump failure

I was told my serpentine belt fell off of my 496ho because the bearing in the sea pump were bad enough to allow the sheave to travel in and out and kick the belt off.

Has anyone run into this?
Thanks

Any sounds/noises form the pump prior to, or any vibrations in the pulley when at idle? Typically with bearings on most any pump/pulley system will give you a little warning, though subtle.

no noises over the straight exhaust. So it could have been making noises, but I didn't hear it. I will know more when I get the old pump back.

YES!...similar. I had an 01' baja with a 496 MAG prior to my fountain. The weld that holds the pulley wheel on to the sea water pump shaft failed and the pulley wheel would move on and off of the shaft....not to mention it wouldnt spin the pump. Subsiqently the engine belt wouldnt stay on.
