Duramax Diesel for marine applications??

With the performance developments in the truck markets and the high tourque output of the Duramax Diesel we were wondering if any one has heard of any development of the duramax for performance marine applications?

With Bio fuels gaining popularity and lower emmissions t stands to reason that it would only be a matter of time before these engines show up in marine applications.

I love the one in my truck.. I know there was a company doing diesels with blowers on them.. I havent seen them in a while.. I think they were out of florida somewhere.. Maybe someone else here knows.. I know they had some pretty impressive specs on them.. We are a Gas engine shop & stay quite busy with that.. So I dont really keep way up on the marine diesel stuff.. ;) Jamie / Lakeside

We use the duramax to pull our race trailer, it has been tuned a bit and makes 870lbs of tourque and 580 ish for hp around 26lbs of boost measured at the wheels.

With a Auroa turbo upgrade, rods and head studs the smae moter makes arouns 1100 lbs of tourque at 35lbs of boost and spins safely at 3500 rpm with short steady puls up to 4000 rpm.

It weighs around 800lbs in automotive trim and very comparable to a BB chev is size. Just seems like a god way to go for economy and reliability. A motor that can make 1100 ft/lbs with a service life estimated at over 500 hrs between majors is pretty appealing in my book, particularly for island hoppers and endurance and military applications.

I have heard that GM and Isuzu are terminating their joint venture that produces the Duramax in the near future. I'm curious what will replace it.Used Duramaxes are showing up in junkyards these days. All you really need to marinize it is a water cooled exhaust and some kind of heat shield on the turbo. The big block exhaust is similar, adapter plates?

Innovation Marine in Sarasota, FL has been marinizing the Duramax with tremendous sucess. They are getting huge power out of them.
