not to hijack your thread SS240, but could someone clarify whats really going on with the v6 module and the advance, does it really come in at 650 rpm? Im running mine on a procharged 502 and was wondering if im loosing something there, i have set initial at 14*, I will have to check total now to see whats up.

SS240, I think I have a module that you can try, I would want it back though!! keeping it in case i pull off the charger.

email me if you havent found [email protected]

While I could just set the total at 30-32, It dosen't seem right to have that much advance at that low rpm. Isn't that putting a lot of stress on the bottom end? I understand that when inertia comes into play from the higher rpm it doesn't matter, but it doesn't seem right for an idling speed. That's more of a question, not a statement. I'm new to all this stuff and certianly don't claim to be very knowlegable.

Im curious about this also.............

thanks

If you've got initial timing set at 14* with a V6 module your total timing is only about 24* You should set total timing at 30* and let the base fall where it may.

BTW, a V6-14 module only gives about 10* advance on a V8 engine.

More timing at idle will not harm anything unless its really high--like above 36-40*

Even then, its really just hard on the starter, not the engine.

Thanks for everyone's imput. It seems the V6-14 module is not appropriate for my application and I should be using a V8-20. Being that I was planning on buying the MSD ignition control with built in rev limiter anyway, it just seems to make sense to make it a completly new MSD system. (The V8-20 module is about $250) Also, it's great to better understand how things work.

You may also look at DUI for a new ignition setup. If I had a carb motor that is what I'd run...

You should set total all the time at around 4000 rpm and not worry about initial, it will fall where it may, no big dealio. Sounds like a bad module though.
