Oil filter mounts

Anyone swap over to the inverted oil filter bases like on the new "blue" Merc engines? I have the carb'd HP500's that have them mounted horizontally on the rear of the engine. It is impossible to catch all the spillage when loosening/changing the filter. You can't get a pan back there either, and I want to keep by bilge pristine.:p

poke a hole in the top of the filter and suck it out with your wifes vaccum cleaner ......
