Reading oil level on the stick...

OK, this will seem like a stupid question but I have to ask. Gen 6 stock pan and stick. When checking the oil with engine at level one side of the stick says full and the other side has notch in it half way between F and L. The side of the stick that says F and L reads full and the other reads half. I understand why this is that way due to the angle of the stick striking the oil level. Think of how when reading a graduated cylinder with liquid you ignore the meniscus in your result. The oil climbs the stick as it would in a beaker more so on the side facing the oil pan bottom.

Which side of the stick did GM intend for us to read? I usually keep it saying half on one side and F on the other.

Read the back, it has always been more accurate for me. Ford, Chev, Pont. Even trannies, read the back....

It all depends on if you have oil to add as to which way you install the stick, ha-ha. it's probably better to run 1/2 a quart more than less.
