Gaffrig Monster GPS Speedo error?...

Recently I noticed my Gaffrig monster GPS speedo pegged itself at 32-33 mph after powering up? I reset/erased recall, and it still pegs at 32-33 no matter running or idling. I popped the dash panel off to look inside and behind it to ensure no wires were loose, or the hockey puck hadn't come loose (you know, obvious stuff) and found everything to be visibly in order.

I'm suspecting the default to 32-33 mph means something like shorted, or some kind of fault reading. Anyone know what it means or if there's a fix besides replacement?

Time to call Gaffrig....

I spoke with them on the phone earlier, they said it sounds like the "head" or gauge itself is toast, no troubleshooting, but the puck and the rest is no doubt fine. I was hoping for "...oh yeah, just press the reset button on the back and you'll be fine".

I suppose they want you to buy a new guage vs. getting that one fixed........... If that gps receiver is like aviation gps's, you could measure for 5-9 volts dc on the center conductor to shield of the lead going to the antenna. Don' know if there is a disconnect or not, but it's something to check.

Yeah I'm going to toy with it first before strokin a check. Seems odd it just croaks from sitting overnight.

Hello Reckless,

Did you ever get your speedo to work again? I just experienced the same problem. Please advise.

BTW, it was one of the "Livorsi" - Gaffrig gauges before that name mess got fixed.

Nope. I took everything out and looked at it, but saw nothing obvious to dig into. All wires/connections were good and clean, and the back area of the gauge itself looked like new. The hockey puck was fixed solid or secure to the deck inside my fairing with no wires pichded or chafed.

Again like mentioned above, it does all the self test stuff to aquire a signal, just doesn't connect and defaults to 33 on my dial. Goes 3 o'clock, 12 o'clock, 6 o'clock, then back to 9 o'clock basically.

I am a Gaffrig Dealer if you want to stick with the Gaffrig name on a new one if you can't get your fixed.

Let me know I will give you a great deal due to your issue.

Seems like the troubleshoot section of the speedo manual tells that 9o'clock position indicates no signal from antenna. Livorsi told me check connections, they were fine. I shipped antenna back, it failed their testing and they replaced.

Thanks for the info. Mine is doing the same thing. Goes thru all the diagnostics then sticks at 30.
