water pump problems

I have a KE single stage water pump. It won't pull thru the drive on a hose or in a large bucket.
I pulled the intake line form the transom and stuck it in a bucket in the bilge and it works. I pulled the drive to make sure my o-ring seals were OK. I pulled the water neck from the inner transom plate and inspected for a clog or restriction. I can force water thru the LWP with a hose and get it to the intake side of the pump.(so it is clear)
Basicly I went thru the hole system top to bottom, I also disassembled the pump wiped it down and installed a new impellor and same results.
My factory merc worked fine but I couldn't use it any more due to a different oil pan so I needed a unit with angled fitings. Anyway has any body heard of this pump or ones like it that have trouble pulling water from the foot. I thought this was a nice set up and it seems to stink. I believe it will work OK when the boat is in the water sitting lower.

What do you think??
thanks,
Tom

I have a low water pickup Bravo with merc raw water pump and it won't suck water until I give it a good couple high revs. It will idle along time sitting in the driveway under a half barrel filled with water until a goose it. Give it a try.

I goosed it plenty and had little to no luck.
I went to the lake to day and it worked great. I'm not sure what the deal is but I guess it's OK Only maked around 12# when running hard. I think that's a little low.

How was your temp?

I have the matched set guage and sender.
It barely gets off 100 degrees. When it shuts down it will creep to 140ish

I'm by no means an expert but I assume your not running a thermostat. You might want to try and put a restricter plate in your thermostat housing. Say something with a 1" hole in it. That will give you a starting point. Should help with both temp and pressure.

I will be putting a restrictor on one side of the crossover when I figure out which side runs the coolest. I just haven't gotten that far yet.
