Water leak thru transom housing - what can it be?
I discovered a water leak coming thru the hole in the transom for the outdrive.
I have no clue (yet) what it could be. Last year - replaced upper pivot pin and seal, bellows, shift cable and shift cable bellows. Last month, Joey Griffin found water in bellows and a small tear, so that was replaced again. I get the leak when the boat is on the beach and thus the transom is deeper in the water. What could it be? Everything that can leak (I think) is new. . . . .?? Thanks in advance. |
If it's only leaking when the nose is up on the beach, it's the upper swivel pin seal. The problem is the stock Merc swivel pin is steel and wil rust and ruin the seal. Ron Bender sells a stainless steel swivel pin to eliminate this problem.

It's leaking at the upper swivel pin seal. The seal area is bad and needs to be taken care of, if it's not to late. I do have a fix
for that as long as the seal area is not far gone. Call me at; 954 237 0332 |
The upper pin WAS replaced, re-sealed in June of 06. So was the gimbal.
There is zero play in the pin. |
