Help Need to find #1
Somebody has had some fun  and pulled out my spark plug wires
I have no tools here and need to find the number 1 on the cap. It is a 500EFI engine and the fiering order is if I remember correctly 1-8-4-3-6-5-7-2 |
Ussually its set in so # 1 is directly facing towards the front of the engine , or slightly to the right if your looking from the front.
If your not sure, I would check ... it shouldnt take but a phillips head to pop the cap off ... turn the sucker over slowly , if you can see the balancer go ahead and bring it around and check where the rotor is pointing ... you could be 180 degree out though , but if you havent turned the dist. , the go ahead anout bring the balancer around again ... it will be pointing to #1. if you cannot see the balancer for some reason, pull the #1 plug out and turn it over till you hear/feel the compression in that cylinder , bring it to TDC and you should be on 1. again, you could be 180 out, if so, turn it over again. |
You can put the timing mark on the pointer, and it if doesn't start up, switch the plug wires on the distributor 180*. If all they did was pull your wires out of the distributor, you can be sure that when the timing mark is on the pointer, the rotor will be pointed at the number one cylinder on the top of the compression stroke.
