How to deal with the transom is another. I read in Motorboating magazine of all places, some maintenance tips on transoms. Basically it was to put a coat of wax on the transom and simply leave it there until you pulled it out. Then towel off the dirty wax leaving a nice shine. But that doesn't do anything for the soot look at the raftup.
