1998 Searay 5.0 Merc Ign Problem
Trying to help a friend, actually is boat next to my slip.
Have not worked on it yet, but know it has no spark. Do I need to do diagnostics, or could it just be a bad cap etc... I have been there before and I know the caps rot out with their aluminum terminals. The biggest reason for this post is that I will not be around to do the job because I have to go to work for a 24 hour shift in the FDNY and the boat has dead batteries, and I have been all over the place and have been everyone's favorite bilge rat ! Thanks for any assistance, BBB It might be newer than 1998 |
It could be the cap, rotor, coil or coil wire. But one of the most common causes for no spark on a T-bolt system is the ignition sensor.
In any case, I never change anything until I find the problem. Yes, sometimes it actually takes longer than just swapping a few parts (if you get lucky and replace the faulty part), but to me troubleshooting is fun, part swapping is not. Dave |
