I can't find the serial numbers on my engines or drives.. Where to look?

I am trying to get this boat registered here in Texas. The state requires the engine and drive serial numbers to complete this process.

I can't find the numbers on the engines, and only the starboard drive has a serial number stamped into the tag on the transom mount.

Any ideas on where I can look to positively identify these engines and drives?

They are HP500's with Bravo 1 drives.

Thanks,

Greg

If the tags are gone they may let / instruct you to stamp a # on them. Any machine shop will have a hand stamp kit. Drives and transoms have them on the decal tags. Not sure if they are stamped in the metal somewhere. Engine blocks will have a metal plate low on the side of the block. I believe they are stamped on the rear of the block near where the flywheel cover meets the block.

Hey Greg,
One other spot you could look is over the back of the engine. Mercury sometiomes put a serial number decal on the backside of the bellhousing facing the transom assembly. Usually in the middle just above the coupler. Also you might try to give what numbers you have to a Mercury Dealer and see if they can come up with something.

My HP motor had the serial number stamped on the block deck right in front of the head above the water pump. forget which one.

My regular non HP motors aren't stamped. Was told it was an HP thing.

Do you have the original flame arrestors?

My 525SC had the serial number stamped on the block below the even numbered cylinder head. I never new it was there until I tore it down. Its hard to see and not stamped very deep.

One the Bravo One the serial # for the drive is printed on the decal, and stamped in the metal behind the decal.
My HP500 did not have the serial stamped in the block. There should be a metal tag naild to the block right over the starter. The # stamped on the block in the front by the wather pump will probable only give you the details of what factory and time the engine was built.
